Choose Conesus Lake if you want big-lake boating, a strong year-round community, and the shortest drive from Rochester, and you are willing to pay for it. Choose Honeoye Lake if you want quieter water, excellent fishing, and Finger Lakes scenery at a lower entry price. Conesus Lake: the Rochester lake

Conesus is the westernmost Finger Lake and the closest to Rochester, which shapes everything about it. It has the biggest boating culture of the three, the most year-round homes, established hamlets at Lakeville and around the shore, and the deepest buyer demand. In late July 2026 the lake had just 5 active listings against 9 pending sales. Sun position, water depth, and frontage vary meaningfully between the east and west shores, which is exactly the kind of thing to walk through with someone who knows the lake parcel by parcel. Honeoye Lake: the quiet one

Honeoye is roughly half the size of Conesus and much shallower, about 30 feet at its deepest. That makes it warmer, weedier late in summer, spectacular for bass fishing, and naturally quieter for boating. The surrounding hills give it arguably the best scenery of the three. Waterfront generally costs less per foot than Conesus, and the mix leans more seasonal. Silver Lake: the value play

Silver Lake, near Perry and Castile in Wyoming County, is the smallest and most affordable of the three, with waterfront listings frequently in the 200,000 to 350,000 dollar range. It sits minutes from Letchworth State Park, has a genuine cottage community with generations of returning families, and offers the lowest barrier to true waterfront ownership within an hour of Rochester.
